Ch4/51: Examples of Fruit used in Austen's Works and their Frequency.

I was interested in finding out if strawberries were the only fruit incorporated by Austen in her works and a search for thirteen types of fruits (including strawberries) in her works resulted in the graphics below.

For this task, I searched the digital resources stated in the links included in the table below.

I conclude that Emma is the only of Austen's works which contains references to the strawberry.

Emma is the ‘fruitiest’ of her works as it also contains many references to apples, as well as to cherries and currants. 

Emma is followed by Mansfield Park which has references to Dr Grant's apricots and to gooseberries.

Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility come third with two references each; the first one has references to grapes and peaches and the second one to apricots and cherries.
